The People Behind My Instagram Pictures

Los Angeles, California

I often get asked this question many times, “Who takes your pictures?!”

As a blogger, it is very important to capture inspiration in order for me to create an aesthetic content. From a young age, I have always had an eye for aesthetics and composition. It was a god-given gift to be able to see things in a unique way and assemble things together to please the eye.

When I see a picture-worthy spot, I put it to frame and visualize the composition. Now you may ask who takes my pictures; let me answer, Anyone- Literally Anyone who is with me! Most of the time it is my sisters who take the pictures as I spend most of my time with them.

How I get them to take a picture just like I want it?

Let me just say, its difficult to get someone to birth your vision. There are many aspects to consider when it comes to taking a perfect picture, which I can discuss in another blog. However, making sure all those aspects are met is a challenge itself from a non-professional, AKA my little sisters and/or anyone else who happens to be with me. Moreover, I have digitalized great content shots with the help of the team. I usually don’t expect a lot from my peers, as I understand they are not professional photographers. But at the same time, it gets hard to open up about my visions to others as people have a short patience span. Time to time I get lucky and get the shots in 5 mins; other times it can take up to 45 mins to an hour.

To all the content shooters who are reading this, you know and understand how long it takes to come up with just one good shot! Don’t even get me started on the video content. Content shooters can visualize things in a picture that many individuals that hold very little interest cannot. I do not blame them nor do I expect a lot from them, however when the passion I have is not being respected, it can be frustrating. Please do not tell me that my passion is a time pass or that I am obsessed with taking pictures. I am trying to build an audience here and eventually a brand!

Over time, my family and friends have understood my goal and became very supportive about it. I am truly grateful for that! Yes I still have people who do not get it and that is ok; I let them be.

Here is how the process goes for me when taking a picture:

  • Go to a location or find something at home
  • Frame the camera and test the pictures myself for good composition. (I usually use my iPhone most of the time as its easier to upload images and edit)
  • I then explain and show how I want it, frame it for them and give a quick 101 session on composition and lighting.
  • And the shooting starts right after I start posing!
  • I check the shots in the middle and see what needs to be fixed on my part and what feedback I can give them to improve the picture.

So there you have it! The people behind my pictures are basically anyone I am with. As long as I feel comfortable with you, you will be taking my picture! 😉
