My Boho Birthday Brunch
Los Angeles, California
Thank you all for the love and support on my birthday reel! I have gotten a lot of positivity on all the events I do and would love to share how I do it!
Last year I couldn’t do anything for my birthday as the lockdown happened just a week before I was turning 27. I knew I wanted to do something this year even if it was something small. Because of safety reasons, I only wanted to invite some of my close ones. If you know me, you know I am all about aesthetics and vibes!
I started by deciding the number of the guest list; from there I looked for some inspiration on what to do. Now, I was short on time as I had busy days ahead, so I knew it should be something I can plan real quick. I saw a cute little boho set up on Pinterest for two and loved everything about it. I checked few party rental places however I was on a budget so it wasn’t working out as I planned.
Since I have done a couple of events already, I have few things in storage that I tend to reuse. I ended up in the garage looking through what I have and how I can make this work. I had a Japanese table that can fit about five people and figured out how to get three more from my friend. I set all the other things out on the table and visualized the concept and the color scheme. From there I knew exactly what to buy and what I could reuse.
Once I had the concept and the color scheme, I worked on the invitations. Nothing big, I just did a graphic digital flyer that fits the boho vibe. And then I basically couldn’t get anything started till three days before the event because my busy schedule took over. Here’s how I was able to get things done and plan this cute little event in three days.
My idea was to do a low seating brunch with charcuterie boards flowing in the middle along with cider bottles and centerpiece arrangements. I wanted to collaborate with a local charcuterie board artist but they didn’t seem interested in collaborating or being part of my event. It was discouraging but I pushed myself to be more creative and do it on my own instead. My staple item at any event that I do is fresh flowers, so I knew I had to fit the flower market in my schedule just a day before the event. When I picked my flowers out at the Flower Market in Downtown LA, I also managed to find a fabric for the table covering. (I had already measured it out and knew how many yards I needed before I left home) I also knew what color I needed so that made the trip super quick. I always go with a vision and give myself about three open options that could work. This helps me from getting discouraged when I don’t find what I want. I managed to shop for flower arrangements in 20 mins and a piece of fabric in another 15 mins; it was the most quick downtown shopping trip I have ever done! For all the other items such as table wear and food items, I shopped at Target, Costco, and Amazon. There was just one thing I forgot on the list and only remembered last min…the cake! I quickly called my local bakery Thursday evening and had to settle with a plane white round cake that I was going to design my self of course. I must say it turned out just perfect!
People think I am a planner and plan every little thing when it comes to events. The truth is the only thing I have figured out is a vision, the rest I just wing it as I am shop. I allow shopping to be an exercise for me to bring my vision to life. Not everything goes according to my vision but I always try to improvise as I go on.
One thing I constantly like to grow is my imagination and vision. With today’s high technology, we forget to exercise our mind and memory that help us with creativity. As I shop one thing after the other, I am already setting it all up in my head of how it will look together. That my friend has been my key to bringing my event ideas to life!
I want to give a huge shout-out to our local café, R Coffee House, in Granada Hills for the amazing food. The event would have not been complete without the yummy sandwiches and delicious coffee. I added my own touch to it by tying the sandwiches with a rustic yarn. Perfect boho vibe don’t you think?
There are so much more details that I would love to get into (view images below to see) but I’ll save you the time and cut it here with just one last detail. Of course I have to let you know how much this event cost me : $360.
I personally want to thank each and everyone who made my birthday feel so special!
CHEERS TO 28!
